Elijah Holyfield Wins EVOLVE Debut Match

Elijah Holyfield, the son of boxing legend Evander Holyfield, made an impressive first impression in WWE EVOLVE, picking up a victory in his debut match against Kai Kavari. The former NFL running back showcased his athleticism and power throughout the bout, but the biggest talking point was the unique knockout-style finisher that ended the match instantly.

Before stepping into the wrestling world, Holyfield built his name on the football field. He played running back for the University of Georgia Bulldogs before spending four seasons in the NFL. However, a serious knee injury in 2022 forced him to reconsider his future.

That setback ultimately opened the door to professional wrestling. After standing out during a WWE tryout held during SummerSlam 2026 weekend, Holyfield signed a developmental deal with WWE in November 2024. His profile continued to rise through his appearances on WWE LFG.

Holyfield suffered a torn bicep that required surgery, but now fully recovered, the 27-year-old has officially started his journey in WWE EVOLVE.

His match with Kavari was relatively short. Using his size, striking ability, and physical strength, he controlled much of the action, although there were occasional moments where his inexperience showed. The finish, however, left an immediate impact.

Before hitting his finisher, Holyfield flashed a thumbs-up taunt reminiscent of Batista’s pre-finisher mannerisms. He then delivered a devastating right hand directly under Kavari’s chin, dropping him instantly before covering for the pin.

The referee immediately called for the bell following the three-count, giving Holyfield a knockout-style victory that served as a clear tribute to his family’s boxing legacy.

Holyfield’s finishing move appears directly inspired by his father, former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield, blending boxing influence with sports entertainment presentation.
