MJF survived RUSH on AEW Dynamite, but he didn’t walk away unscathed, as he has been forced to pull out of an indie booking due to an injury.
Beyond Wrestling took to Twitter and announced that the AEW World Champion is no longer appearing at its June 5 event in Cranston, Rhode Island. MJF was scheduled to face Bobby Orlando, but the promotion said he hyperextended his knee during Wednesday night’s AEW Dynamite and is not cleared to travel or wrestle.
“Unfortunately @The_MJF hyperextended his knee during his match last night & is not medically cleared to travel or compete. He will not be in Cranston tomorrow night but assured me he will wrestle for Beyond Wrestling as soon as his schedule allows. We wish him a speedy recovery.”
The injury comes right after MJF retained the AEW World Championship against RUSH in a brutal No Countout Match on the June 3 edition of Dynamite. RUSH pushed MJF hard throughout the fight, but MJF eventually retained after locking in a crossface and forcing RUSH to pass out.
While MJF kept the title, he also took a lot of punishment in the process. Now, the hyperextended knee has already forced him off at least one upcoming independent date. At this point, AEW has not announced whether the injury will impact MJF’s television schedule. For now, he remains champion, but his status will be worth watching after a hard-fought Dynamite main event.
Do you think MJF’s knee injury could affect AEW’s World Title plans, or is this just a short-term setback? Let us know your thoughts and feedback in the comments below.
