Minecraft Nintendo Switch 2 Release Date, Content &

Minecraft is getting a Nintendo Switch 2 native version soon, but when is it launching and what unique features and content is it packing? Here we’ve collected all the answers so far.

Developed by Mojang and now published by Xbox Game Studios, Minecraft is almost 15 years old and continues to evolve, with its franchise appeal extending to spinoff games and even movies now. No plans for Minecraft 2 have been shared yet, and looking at all the resources still going into its development, we’re not expecting a direct upgrade anytime soon.

However, there’s the matter of porting Minecraft to new hardware, and with a solid Nintendo Switch version behind us, the prospect of getting the iconic sandbox game on stronger hybrid hardware is enticing. Here’s what we know about the Nintendo Switch 2 port of Minecraft so far.

Minecraft Switch 2 release date

At the time of writing, an ESRB rating has confirmed Minecraft is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 sooner rather than later, but the port hasn’t received a release date (or window) yet.

However, with Summer Game Fest and a new Xbox Games Showcase happening in the coming days, plus a big summer Nintendo Direct rumoured to hit shortly afterwards, it’s almost a given Minecraft on Switch 2 will lock its release very soon. Stay tuned for updates right here.

Minecraft Switch 2 content and features

Details on Nintendo Switch 2-exclusive content and features for Minecraft haven’t been shared yet, but they’re likely being revealed alongside the official announcement trailer.

While we’re not expecting a new batch of platform-specific content (we’d be happy with just update parity without delays), Minecraft on Switch 2 is probably getting a resolution boost past the Switch 1’s 720p and 1080p targets, larger worlds, better draw distance, and more stable performance at least.

Ideally, Minecraft could make good use of the Joy-Con 2’s mouse functionality and the console screen’s HDR and VRR capabilities. Let’s hope Mojang and Xbox have actually put in the effort to wow with this upgrade.
