Charles Leclerc has topped the timing charts in the opening practice session at the Monaco GP, ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.
The Monegasque’s lap time of 1:13.978 was enough to edge out the competition after the first hour of practice during FP1.
Just over 30 minutes left of the session, Antonelli went quickest, his teammate Russell had been down in P9 by the end of the first half of FP1, but also made his way up the grid later on.
There were also tensions between the two Haas drivers early on, Esteban Ocon was furious that Ollie Bearman had blocked him during his flying lap but the Briton claimed his team-mate was being “stupid.”
Isack Hadjar then brought out the weekend’s first Red Flag after a slide at the Swimming Pool chicane with 25 minutes to go, thankfully the Red Bull driver was okay, but puzzled at what had caused the spin.
In fourth in Monaco came Antonelli, ahead of Russell and Norris in P5 and P6, respectively.
Hulkenberg and Piastri made up seventh and eighth, while the top ten at FP1 was rounded up by Bortoleto and Gasly, following another late Red Flag for some Aston Martin debris.
