Caitlin Clark's Immediate Reaction to Kelsey Mitchell Announcement

Kelsey Mitchell and Caitlin Clark powered the Indiana Fever to a crucial 83-71 win over the Atlanta Dream on Thursday night. The win snapped Indiana’s two-game losing streak and gave them a victory to kick off their Commissioner’s Cup title defense.

Mitchell exploded for 25 points on 11-of-15 shooting, while Clark had an all-around performance with 17 points, seven rebounds, eight assists and one block.

Aliyah Boston came up big for the Fever against the red-hot Dream, recording 19 points on 3-of-4 shooting from deep, along with seven rebounds, two assists and three blocks.

It was an extra special night for Mitchell, however, as she reached a career milestone in the win. The Fever announced during the game that the All-Star scorer officially reached 5,000 career points.

Mitchell entered the contest with 4,978 points, needing 22 to reach the mark. She achieved that number by the third quarter, making a floater with under three minutes remaining for her 21st and 22nd points of the game.

After the win, Clark was informed about Mitchell’s achievement as she was heading to the locker room. The 24-year-old sharpshooter didn’t hide her delight, celebrating and saying she was “just super happy” for her.

“Lucky that she’s my teammate, so congrats Kelz!” Clark added.

Mitchell is one of only two players to score at least 5,000 points in Fever history. The only other Indiana player to do so is WNBA legend Tamika Catchings, who still holds the franchise record with 7,380 points.

Considering how incredible Mitchell has been for the Fever, it’s not hard to see her surpassing Catchings’ record in the next couple of years.

Clark, for her part, already has over 1,000 points with the Fever. That being said, it shouldn’t be long before she joins Mitchell in the top five.
