The Washington Capitals will be looking at the defenseman market
Sammi Silber of The Hockey News: Washington Capitals defenseman Rasmus Sandin is rehabbing after surgery to repair a torn ACL back in April. He’ll be out until at least January, with recovery between six and nine months.
Capitals GM Chris Patrick will be looking for defensemen this offseason. Sandin had been playing on the top pairing after they traded John Carlson to the Ducks.
Dougie Hamilton is more likely to remain with the Devils after Sunny Mehta was hired. What about Simon Nemec?
The Chris Johnston Show: Chris Johnston on the New Jersey Devils defensemen Simon Nemec and Dougie Hamilton being on his trade bait board.

“You know. Simon Nemec is on the list fairly high, you know. Even though that report out of Slovakia recently about him demanding a trade is false, it doesn’t mean he’s not going to be traded. I mean, he’s a restrictive free agent this summer. He’s going to be looking for a long-term deal similar to the one that Luke Hughes, his teammate got. That was $9 million per year.
NHL Rumors: Panthers, Flyers, Ducks, Berube, First-Round Picks, Devils and Stars
You know, the Devils do have a lot of money tied up in their, in their blue line. You know, some people have wondered about Dougie Hamilton. My sense, actually, is Hamilton, it’s not saying he won’t be moved, but he’s less likely to be moved with Sonny Mehta coming in. I think the value on analytics that that front office, you know, has, and certainly the Devils are, I don’t think they’re in a rush.
You know, when you take over a front office, you know, it’s not like they feel like they have to make a trade in two weeks. But you know, Nemec will be interesting, just because he does need a new contract. I think he’s a piece they could certainly, a big piece they could play to maybe address some other issues that forward.
And you know there were discussions, you know, prior to Mehta’s time with the Devils with the previous front office, you know, before the deadline teams, you know, we’re having some trade discussions around Nemec. So some of those, some of those conversations have already happened, and you just wonder, is there a way to pick up on momentum that might have been being had earlier and complete a deal this summer.
