Chris Billam-Smith vs Ryan Rozicki – Results & Post-Fight Report

Chris Billam-Smith forced Ryan Rozicki to retire on his stool at the end of the seventh round of a pulsating first UK Zuffa Boxing showdown in Bournemouth on Saturday.

Billam-Smith (22-2, 14 KOs) eventually overwhelmed the relentless Rozicki, with the visitor’s corner pulling him out before the start of the eighth round of their cruiserweight clash at the Bournemouth International Centre.

Rozicki (21-2-1, 20 KOs) began with a ferocious pace, forcing Billam-Smith to trade in the pocket with him.

The home favourite obliged and a cut was already visible under the Canadian’s left eye.

Rozicki kept up his relentless workrate in the second, but was deducted a point in the same round for persistent use of the head.

Billam-Smith fired back in the third with a huge uppercut rocking Rozicki as he attempted to continue trading.

‘The Bruiser’ regained momentum in the fourth, pinning the Bournemouth man against the ropes, who was forced to eat some accurate punches.

The pair continued to trade blow-for-blow in a pulsating fifth, both having success on the inside.

The former WBO world champion was landing at will in the sixth, yet Rozicki bravely and incredibly remained standing amid a near eight-punch flurry.

The 31-year-old stumbled back to his corner looking in distress and bloodied after shipping further unanswered blows at the end of the seventh.

Rozicki’s corner had seen enough and withdrew their man to hand ‘The Gentleman’ a first victory since outpointing Brandon Glanton last April.

Billam-Smith set up a potential clash with former IBF world champion and Zuffa stablemate, Jai Opetaia.

Clarke survives two knockdowns, stops Massey in thriller

Cheavon Clarke climbed off the canvas twice to halt Jack Massey in seventh round of a thrilling cruiserweight contest.

Massey (23-4, 13 KOs) looked on course for an early stoppage after flooring Clarke (11-2, 9 KOs) in the fourth with a huge right hand.

‘One Smack’ piled on the pressure and a body shot had the the Kent man down again.

‘C4’ however rallied and fired back with a right hand in the seventh to drop the 33-year-old to the seat of his pants.

Clarke sensed a stoppage and capitalised with a flurry of right hands prompting referee Bob Williams to intervene.

Cutler sees off Sutton after injury

Lee Cutler got back to winning ways after defeat to Sam Eggington, with Aaron Sutton pulling out of their contest with an injury in the third round.

Cutler (16-2, 8 KOs) connected with a right hand, which had Sutton (19-3, 3 KOs) reeling in pain with what looked to be a shoulder injury.

McKenna blows away Streeter

Stephen McKenna bounced straight back from defeat to Lee Cutler, blowing away Casey James Streeter in the opening round.

Streeter (15-4-2, 6 KOs) somehow remained on his feet after a McKenna (16-1, 15 KOs) detonated a vicious left hook, however a follow-up assault floored him.

The American beat the count, but McKenna was unrelenting and forced the referee to intervene after a further barrage of blows.

Remaining Undercard

Sam Hickey (5-0, 2 KOs) landed a devastating right hand to take out Todd Tompkins in the second round of their middleweight clash.

Tompkins (4-1) was given oxygen as he lay on the canvas, but the 29-year-old fortunately made it to his feet shortly afterwards.

Heavyweight Ivan Dychko bounced back from defeat to Jermaine Franklin Jr with a split decision win over Harvey Dykes (7-1-1).

Dychko (16-1, 14 KOs) emerged with two scores of 97-92, overruling a score of 95-94 in Dykes’ favour.

Welterweight prospect, Alex MacMillan (4-0, 3 KOs) dropped Leo Fanthome (7-3, 1 KO) three times on route to a brutal second round stoppage win.

Light heavyweight prospect, Leon Hughes (5-0, 4 KOs) recorded a third round stoppage of Mario Vergiev (8-5, 5 KOs).
