Randy Orton’s WWE return is still not locked in, even though his name has been popping up on WWE’s advertised schedule.
Orton was previously advertised for the May 29 episode of SmackDown in Barcelona, Spain, which led to speculation that he could be returning before Clash in Italy. That did not happen.
Now Orton is also listed for upcoming SmackDown dates on WWE’s website, including shows in Providence and Kansas City. That has only added more talk about when “The Viper” could finally be back on television.
However, Sean Ross Sapp noted that despite online speculation, Orton is not currently scheduled to return on next week’s SmackDown. That can always change, but as things stand, there are no plans in place for Orton to make his return on the upcoming episode.
Sapp did not confirm the prior week’s advertised listing or give a specific date for when Orton is expected back. Orton has been absent from WWE television since WrestleMania 42, where he lost to Cody Rhodes in the Undisputed WWE Championship main event. After the match, Orton snapped and attacked Rhodes, including hitting him with the title and delivering a punt kick.
That angle left the door open for the feud to continue, especially after reports that WWE had discussed Orton possibly winning his 15th world championship before ultimately keeping the title on Rhodes.
For now, though, fans should not assume Orton’s name on WWE’s event listings means he is returning next week. He may still be advertised for future SmackDown shows, but the latest word is that he is not currently set for the upcoming episode.
