Anthony Edwards wants the Minnesota Timberwolves to improve their roster this offseason, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.

Speaking during ESPN’s coverage of the NBA Finals, Windhorst suggested Edwards has concerns about the team’s current roster and may be evaluating Minnesota’s long-term outlook after seeing former teammate Karl-Anthony Towns reach the NBA Finals with the New York Knicks.

“Going forward after this series, the Minnesota Timberwolves’ future is in question somewhat because of what Ant feels about the roster, and I wonder if KAT was still there, if he did,” he said.

Windhorst did not provide details about the specific changes Edwards would like to see, but his comments indicate that the four-time All-Star is hoping for upgrades to help Minnesota compete for a championship.

The Timberwolves were eliminated in the second round of the playoffs this year after reaching the Western Conference Finals in 2025.

Donte DiVincenzo missed the postseason because of a ruptured Achilles, which hurt the team’s depth.

Minnesota’s front office made a notable move at the trade deadline by acquiring Ayo Dosunmu from Chicago. Re-signing Dosunmu is expected to be one of the team’s priorities this summer.

Any signs of frustration from Edwards are important for the organization because he remains the centerpiece of the franchise.

However, the Timberwolves still have significant control over their star player, who is under contract for three more seasons.

The team’s financial situation could make major additions difficult. Minnesota already has large salary commitments to Rudy Gobert, Julius Randle, Jaden McDaniels, and Naz Reid for next season.

Adding another high-level player could push the team back above the NBA’s second apron.

Edwards is also eligible for a contract extension this offseason, although he is currently limited to a two-year extension after failing to meet the 65-game requirement for All-NBA eligibility.

If he earns All-NBA honors next season, he could become eligible for a four-year supermax extension worth approximately $300 million.
