This pivotal weekend in the U.S. girls’ lacrosse season will have even more competition today. Here are some games to keep an eye on, including what could be a delightful state final in the Nidwest:
12 noon: RIIL Division III final, Providence Moses Brown (R.I.) vs. East Greenwich (R.I.) According to the LaxNumbers computer rankings, these two teams grade out as the two best in Rhode Island. These two schools also take girls’ sports seriously, and have won a number of titles in the last few seasons.
1 p.m.: OHSAA Division I final: Upper Arlington (Ohio) vs. Powell Olentangy Liberty (Ohio) The Upper Arlington Bears are going for their 12th state title, and they have been on a tear. They have won 22 straight since a season-opening loss to Milton (Ga.). This is a rematch of an April 14 game which was a 14-5 win for Upper Arlington.
3 p.m.: NYSPHSAA Class C quarterfinals: Rockville Centre South Side (N.Y.) vs. Sayville (N.Y.) Sayville, the No. 6 team in the TopOfTheCircle.com Top 10, is undefeated in 18 games this season, but are meeting a Rockville Centre South Side (N.Y.) that just managed to get by Wantagh (N.Y.) on a goal in the final seconds in the Nassau County final
4 p.m.: MIAA Division I semifinals: Hingham Notre Dame (Mass.) vs. Westford (Mass.) Academy Notre Dame, coached by Northwestern legend Meredith Frank, has lost only one game this season, a 9-7 defeat at Cohasset. That loss was avenged two weeks later. Notre Dame is hoping not to have this happen against the opposing Westford Academy side; NDA won their regular-season matchup on April 1 by a score of 16-5.
