GameWatcher beams down to see what the Star Trek: Shadow Frontier release date for the horror adventure could be, what platforms it’ll be on, and more.
After the success of Star Trek Voyager: Across the Unknown, Paramount looks to keep the good times rolling in the Trek gaming universe by collaborating with one of the hottest names in modern horror gaming, Bloober Team, to create the horror adventure Star Trek: Shadow Frontier.
Silent Hill 2 Remake, Cronos, and Layers of Fear developer Bloober Team is creating an original story with returning Next Generation and Picard character Ro Laren (with actor Michelle Forbes reprising the role).
Let’s learn more about the game, including when the Star Trek: Shadow Frontier release date might be, story details, and all the other tidbits we know about this potentially terrifying Trek adventure.
Star Trek: Shadow Frontier Release Date
While we can’t quite triangulate the exact release date’s coordinates, we do have a vague idea of when Star Trek: Shadow Frontier will arrive, as Bloober confirmed a 2027 release window.
Given we’re only just learning about Star Trek: Shadow Frontier, and with Bloober already being quite busy with other projects, it would be unlikely to see the game out in the next 12 months. Seems like a slam dunk October 2027 game to me.
Star Trek: Shadow Frontier Story
Star Trek: Shadow Frontier follows protagonist and member of the Bajoran species, Ro Laren (Michelle Forbes), as she crash-lands on an uncharted planet after answering a distress call.
The planet is a spaceship graveyard where nothing is as it seems. As she explores the planet’s corrupted surface and crosses paths with other survivors, she must face twisted creatures, a hostile ecosystem, and an entity that seeks to envelop her body and mind.
Star Trek: Shadow Frontier Gameplay
While we don’t know too much about how the game plays, the teaser trailer suggests a third-person perspective and a continuation of Bloober’s psychological horror style.
Interestingly, the teaser offers no hints of combat (although there’s mention of phasers being used to fend off enemies on the Steam page), and most of it shows Ro Laren legging it down sinister-looking corridors. So, will this be a streamlined stalker-based horror game with limited opportunities for combat?
Well, according to the developer, each encounter will test your resolve as much as your skill. You’ll need to stay alert, pay attention to your surroundings, and choose whether to engage in combat or outmanoeuvre your enemies.
It would make sense to put some distance between this and Bloober’s original sci-fi survival horror game, Cronos: The New Dawn, on a gameplay level. The developer is promising that Ro Laren’s mission is driven by duty and purpose in true Star Trek fashion, so that should shape a quite different sci-fi horror experience than Cronos.
Star Trek: Shadow Frontier Platforms, Pre-Orders & Prices
There’s no price or pre-order information just yet, but we do know that Star Trek: Shadow Frontier will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Could there be a Switch 2 release down the line? We don’t know just yet, but we will keep you updated.
