Antonee Robinson left Soldier Field as one of the U.S. men’s national team’s better performers against Germany.
Robinson scored the Americans lone goal in a 2-1 home defeat against Julian Nagelsmann’s squad. The USMNT left back earned SBI Man of the Match honors after delivering a strong 62-minute performance in his final tuneup match before FIFA World Cup play begins.
“It was a real shoulder back and smash it kind of moment. It was a great feeling,” Robinson said about the goal in a postmatch interview on TNT.
“[The goal] meant a lot to me,” he added. “There were parts of this season where it didn’t seem like there was a light at the end of the tunnel.”
Kai Havertz opened the scoring early for Germany but Robinson tied things up before halftime with his first international goal in close to three years. Robinson’s thunderous left-footed volley flew past Oliver Baumann, giving Mauricio Pochettino’s squad a 1-1 lifeline.
It marked Robinson’s first USMNT goal since November 2023.
Leroy Sane’s 57th-minute finish proved to be the winning goal as the Americans slumped to their third defeat of 2026.
Robinson played 62 minutes in the match before being substituted off after the hour mark. The veteran defender walked off the field gingerly after dealing with apparent cramps during stages of the second half.
USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino later confirmed that Robinson left the match with cramps and not via an injury.
Robinson edged Weston McKennie, Malik Tillman, and Folarin Balogun for Man of the Match honors.
What did you think of Robinson’s performance? Do you expect him to be 100% ready to go for the USMNT’s group stage opener?
