Ritika Sajdeh, wife of Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma, posted devastating images on her Instagram showing the severe impact of Hurricane Beryl on Bridgetown and Barbados. The Indian cricket team, who recently celebrated their T20 World Cup victory over South Africa on June 29, has been stuck on the island due to the hurricane for the past three days. Bridgetown airport is expected to resume operations early Wednesday morning (IST), allowing the team to finally return home.
The team, comprising 70 members including players, their families, support staff, and BCCI officials, will be flown out on a special charter flight arranged by the board. They are expected to reach India by Wednesday night.
Ritika’s Instagram stories highlighted the hurricane’s devastating effect on marine life, including images of a dead fish and turtle eggs. Earlier, she had expressed her emotions regarding Rohit’s journey to winning the T20 World Cup, acknowledging the hard work and challenges he faced.
“Ro, I know what this has meant to you. This format, this cup, these men, this journey, and this entire process of getting what you’ve always dreamed of. I know how hard these last few months have been for you. I know the toll it’s taken on your heart, mind and body but watching you achieve your dream was incredibly emotional and inspiring,” she wrote.
Rohit Sharma’s leadership and performance were instrumental in India’s first T20 World Cup win in 17 years, and their first ICC trophy in 11 years. His outstanding batting and strategic captaincy were key to India’s success. Following the victory, Rohit, along with Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja, announced their retirement from T20Is, though they will still be available for ODIs and Tests.
Hurricane Beryl’s Devastation in the Caribbean
Hurricane Beryl, a Category 4 storm, wreaked havoc in the Caribbean, especially in Barbados and smaller islands like St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The hurricane caused widespread damage, including downed power lines and flash floods, resulting in at least three fatalities. St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves reported severe destruction, with 90% of homes on Union Island either destroyed or heavily damaged.
Rahul Dravid’s Inspirational Presentation Before T20 World Cup Final
Before the T20 World Cup final, India’s head coach Rahul Dravid used a powerful two-slide presentation to motivate the team. Suryakumar Yadav revealed that Dravid displayed a comparison of the number of T20I matches played by the team members versus the coaching staff. This highlighted the players’ vast experience and encouraged them to trust their judgment and perform confidently.
Dravid’s motivational strategy helped the team maintain focus and live in the present, contributing to their undefeated streak in the tournament. With Dravid’s tenure as head coach coming to an end, the BCCI is set to announce a new head coach, with Gautam Gambhir and WV Raman as top contenders.
