Bryce Mitchell Discusses New Comfort Level After UFC Bantamweight Switch

UFC star Bryce Mitchell has explained why he feels good about his move to bantamweight after his triumph over the previously undefeated Santiago Luna.

Last weekend, Bryce Mitchell secured a nice submission victory to really continue his hot streak of form since making the switch down from the featherweight division. His inconsistency at 145 led to him making a change, and while it is certainly still early days, he is hoping that he can really start to live up to the potential he had when he first came through the doors of the UFC.

Bryce Mitchell has always been an interesting character in the world of mixed martial arts and that will likely continue to be the case, but performance wise, he’s doing what he needs to do in order to stay relevant at bantamweight.

In his post-fight scrum, Bryce Mitchell had the following to say about his new venture.

Bryce Mitchell expresses satisfaction with bantamweight move

“I just feel matched,” Mitchell said at the UFC Fight Night 278 post-fight press conference. “I don’t feel big, but I definitely don’t feel small. And I feel like when I get my grips, I can take anybody down in that weight class. And I don’t think size will be a disadvantage. I think it’s an equal playing field, whereas I was really outsized at ’45.”

“It wasn’t until I fought Jean Silva. It was in the second round when I got a good hold of his waist, and I was like, ‘He’s just too big to lift up,’” Mitchell said. “And after fighting Jean Silva, I really felt his presence, and his body weight really wore me down.”

While he may not be everyone’s cup of tea, there is no getting around the fact that Bryce is a real prospect at 135 pounds and could potentially put together a really nice run. Given the confidence he seems to have gained from his 2-0 start, the smart money is on him carrying some real momentum into his next appearance in the cage, alongside having some interesting views outside of it.
