It’s been a brilliant month for the Academy boys and this is a just reward for the hard work they have put in throughout the winter.

The journey began back in October, with the squad committing themselves to a demanding programme focused on developing their skills, fitness, and understanding of the game. The performances and progress shown over the last few weeks are a reflection of the dedication and effort that has gone in behind the scenes.

The National T20 Week at York CC & Clifton Alliance CC provided a fantastic platform for the players to showcase their development.

Preparation for the tournament was equally important. Fixtures against Northamptonshire, Warwickshire and Leicestershire offered valuable experiences across different grounds and varying dimensions, helping the squad adapt their skills and game plans ahead of the national competition. These matches played a significant role in preparing the players for the challenges they would face during the week.

What stood out most throughout the tournament was the way the players handled themselves both mentally and physically. The demands of a busy week of T20 cricket can be challenging, yet the group showed maturity, resilience and professionalism throughout.

It was particularly pleasing to see some of the older players using the break in fixtures on Wednesday to continue their A-Level revision. Their ability to balance academic commitments alongside their cricket demonstrates the character and discipline within the group.

The players deserve enormous credit for fully embracing the style of T20 cricket we have been encouraging them to play. Their willingness to commit to that approach, back their skills, and support one another has been a key factor in the progress made this season.

The last month has been a fantastic step forward for the Academy programme, and while there is still plenty of work ahead, the group should be proud of what they have achieved and excited about the opportunities that lie ahead.

NIC added, “Seeing the Academy U18’s group commit to a structured programme and then translate that into performance on a national stage is exactly what we aim to support through NIC’s development pathway. The discipline, teamwork, and professionalism they’ve shown over the winter is outstanding, and it reflects the values we want to embed across NIC. We’re incredibly proud of how they’ve represented the organisation and excited about where this group can go next.”
