NHL Rumors: Columbus Blue Jackets, and the Ottawa Senators

Mason Marchment is looking for a big deal, and Boone Jenner may want term

Jason Gregor: Aaron Portzline on Sports 1440 on Columbus Blue Jackets pending UFA forwards Mason Marchment and Boone Jenner.

“My sense is that Marchment will be the hardest of their UFAs to sign. I think he is trying to hit it big, and it is probably the right year to do it with a limited free agent market.

Jenner recently changed agents, and I think he will want term, and I’m not sure the Blue Jackets are in the market for long-term. It would be strange to see him not be part of the Blue Jackets. Fans love him and it will be tough for some if he leaves.”

Alex Tuch Likely Heading to Free Agency, Who Will be Interested?

Several areas of need for the Ottawa Senators

Bruce Cassidy of the Ottawa Citizen: Sources say Ottawa Senators GM Steve Staios was busy talking to teams and agents to see who is available on the trade market, and who may become a UFA on July 1st when free agency opens. The top priorities for the Senators this offseason.

Top-six winger: They’d like to find someone to play with Tim Stutzle and Brady Tkachuk. The problem for the Senators is they don’t have a lot of assets and they don’t want to give up much. Jordan Kyrou doesn’t make a lot of sense, but have been told that Anaheim Ducks Mason McTavish is a realistic target. They haven’t talked to the Blues about Robert Thomas, despite them being linked to him.

Top-four right-handed defenseman – Nick Jensen is expected to go to free agency after knee surgery, and they’ll need to decide on Jordan Spence.

Backup goalie: Leevi Merilainen and James Reimer remain options. They are interested in Connor Ingram and Stuart Skinner.

The Edmonton Oilers Interest in Mike Babcock Seems to be Ownership Driven

Colton Parayko and Justin Faulk wouldn’t waive their no-movement clauses to come to Ottawa at the trade deadline. The Senators were willing to give up a first-round pick and a high-end prospect. The Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings were interested in Parayko at the trade deadline.

There is a mutual interest between the Senators and pending UFA forwards Claude Giroux and Nick Cousins
