Lerrone Richards files appeal after controversial Albert Ramirez loss

Lerrone Richards has filed an appeal to the WBA following last Thursday’s controversial defeat to Albert Ramirez in Canada.

Richards was beaten on a contentious split decision to Ramirez in a bid to win the WBA interim light heavyweight title in Montreal, with the result sparking widespread outrage on social media.

The 33-year-old said he intended to appeal the result and his management team, S-JAM Boxing filed the appeal to the WBA on Tuesday.

The Brit’s team hope the outcome will see the result overturned and an immediate rematch ordered.

Archie Slaymaker, Boxing Operations Manager at S-JAM Boxing, told proboxing-fans.com on Thursday: “The appeal was sent across to the WBA on Tuesday afternoon with the hope that the result from last Thursday’s contest is overturned and an immediate rematch is ordered.

“We all look forward to hearing the outcome of the appeal in due course.”

‘Sniper The Boss’ admitted he was left devastated by the result, which saw him miss out on a shot at unified light heavyweight titlist, Dmitry Bivol.

The southpaw suffered a second defeat in three bouts, having been stopped by Steed Woodall in 2024 and has called for “justice” following the defeat.

“After the result was read out I was devastated,” Richards told proboxing-fans.com.

“I went back to the changing room and I’ll be honest, I broke down and I cried.

“I’m a winner. Being robbed in that type of way is devastating.

“The fair result would be for it to be overturned, if not overturned made to be a no contest or no decision and me and Ramirez to run it back.

“I’m leaving that with the team and hopefully we get news within the next week or two.”

“There should be no dispute.

“There should be no controversy.

“You should just give me the win, give me what I worked hard for, give me what I deserve.

”I would love justice.”
