Why is Tommy Fury fighting Eddie Hall?

Why is Tommy Fury fighting Eddie Hall?

Tommy Fury admits himself his career is not the norm.

Fury, the younger brother of former heavyweight world champion, Tyson is in a unique position.

Partly down to the furore which comes with his last name, but also due to the fame he found on reality show Love Island in 2019, the 27-year-old is almost able to pick and choose his fights at will.

On a week when he welcomed his second child with long-time girlfriend, Molly-Mae Hague, whom he met on Love Island, ‘TNT’ faces the heaviest challenge of his career in the form of 2017 World’s Strongest man, Eddie Hall on Saturday at the AO Arena in Manchester, live on DAZN pay-per-view.

The Manchester man is set to earn another seven-figure payday for his outing against the 300-pound behemoth, who has only previously fought against strongman rival, Thor Björnsson.

Fury has already banked millions from 14 rounds combined against YouTube sensations, Jake Paul and KSI, which drew huge audiences and colossal pay-per-view buys.

It’s these big events and cheques which has lured Fury away from the traditional route and over to the crossover scene for far less risk and much quicker reward.

“I can’t help the way my career’s gone,” he said on The Ariel Helwani Show.

“I’ve got probably the most uncanny career there’s ever been, because I’m mixing it on both sides.

“The fact is you’ve got to know your worth.

“I’m not saying I’m a world champion, because I’m nowhere near that, but it’s like them they only fight once or twice or year.

“It’s like me, I’m not going to fight for anything less than I’m worth.

“At the end of the day, if it makes money it makes sense and that’s why I’m getting back in the ring.

“I’ll never box for anything that I know I’m not worthy of.”

Fury, who secured eight straight professional wins, prior to back-to-back victories over the aforementioned Paul and KSI, brings legitimacy and experience to a scene which draws in names better known for their social media followings than their expertise in the ring.

Jack Kay, nicknamed the ‘Ibiza Final Boss’, rose to fame for escapades on the Spanish party island last summer and his viral fame has led him to a bout against rapper Jordan McCann.

A pair of giant influencers named Big Stacks – who calls himself the hardest man in the UK – and Armz Korleone are also a part of the chaotic night in Manchester.

Despite his claims that he intends to one day become world champion, his immediate future appears set on continuing to earn the big bucks and with a combined instagram following of over 10 million, Fury and Hall will both be profiting handsomely from their six, two-minute rounds of graft on Saturday.
