“I’ve been participating in Ride for Roswell for a number of years and was encouraged by my colleague (Dr. Julia Faller) to try Empire State Ride. I finally made the commitment last year and had a phenomenal time. Everyone involved in Empire State Ride was fantastic — the founder, Terry Bourgeois (and his wife, Maria!), the Alliance leadership who coordinated the week, the volunteers who gave their time and the riders who pushed through the long days.
I was shocked when I first arrived at Wagner College — the size of the event is really intimidating! Everyone I met along the way was welcoming and encouraging. They made it fun and easy. I made friends every day along the way and had an experience that I will never forget.
I initially signed up as a personal challenge, to be able to say that “I did it! I rode my bike across the state.” That’s not what brings me back. Meeting people, hearing the stories of why they are participating and working together every day as a team to get across the state was special. The nightly meetings stand out in my memory because they were always filled with hope and really inspirational.
I look forward to my shorter two-day ride this year and can’t wait to do the full week again in 2027!”
