It sounds as though there will be another big name on the trade market this summer.
According to USA Today’s MLB insider Bob Nightengale, opposing front offices are confident that the Miami Marlins will be dealing their ace Sandy Alcantara.
The plot has thickened regarding Alcantara trade rumors as the Marlins find themselves in an in-between position as of mid-June. They are well out of the race in the NL east, trailing the Braves by 11.5 games. But they sit just two games back of the final wild-card spot.
Alcantara has been a highly coveted trade chip since last season. The 2022 Cy Young winner has posted a 6-4 and 4.25 ERA with 71 strikeouts and a 1.22 WHIP.
While his performance has been mediocre so far this season with inconsistencies with limiting hard contact, especially compared to his lofty 2022 Cy Young standards, he has still shown flashes of success. In addition, he owns a solid walk-rate of 5.7%, ranking in the 89th percentile.
