Ava is giving her mom Dany Garcia her flowers — and she’s basically saying The Rock’s empire didn’t get built by one person.
Dwayne Johnson and Dany were married in 1997, split in 2007, and finalized their divorce in 2008. For most people, that would be the end of the working relationship, too. Not for them. Dany started managing The Rock after the divorce, and the two later teamed up again to build Seven Bucks Productions in 2012.
While speaking on The Lib’s Finisher, Ava talked about what life looked like after her parents split. The Rock moved out to California to chase acting, while Ava mainly stayed in Florida with Dany. But because her mom was always on the move, Ava got to travel with her too.
“So I did travel a lot. My parents actually divorced when I was seven. So my dad moved out to California, obviously to pursue acting, and I would still see him pretty frequently, but I mainly stayed in Florida with my mom.
But she’s obviously a super busy lady, so she would travel all the time, and I would get to travel with her, and that was always really cool. And she started managing him after they got divorced.”
That’s when the host basically asked the obvious question — how does that even happen? Your parents divorce, and your mom still ends up managing your dad. Ava didn’t make it sound messy. She made it sound like business, makng it clear that a lot of her dad’s success is due to her mom.
“They made it work. I will always say this—so much of my dad’s success is from my mom, and I don’t think she will ever get enough credit.
My dad is a phenomenal actor, a phenomenal entertainer, phenomenal in everything he has done. But there has been so much behind the scenes that my mom has done in her own lane, and I think that’s amazing.”
Ava is not taking anything away from The Rock. She called him phenomenal. But she also made it clear Dany was doing major work behind the curtain while the world watched Johnson become one of the biggest stars on the planet. Bottom line, Ava says Dany Garcia deserves more credit for helping build The Rock’s success story — divorce or no divorce, the business side clearly kept rolling.
