Just 24 hours after TNA Wrestling granted Tessa Blanchard her release, Tommy Dreamer and TNA parted ways! The long-time TNA producer announced on Busted Open Radio that he had a conversation with President Carlos Silva about their working relationship. An emotional Tommy Dreamer noted that the end result was that both parties should go their separate ways. Now that Tommy Dreamer is no longer with TNA, a WWE Hall of Famer is potentially being earmarked for the role.
Tommy Dreamer and TNA Break Up
If anyone knows the backstory behind Tommy Dreamer’s dedication to ECW, they would know how passionate he is about pro wrestling. The Extreme Icon prides himself on putting his body, mind, and soul on the line for the business.
Whether it was operating ECW without Paul Heyman present, starting House of Hardcore, or joining TNA as a producer, Tommy Dreamer tries hard to stay relevant in the business. That’s why Beulah McGillicutty’s hubby got a little emotional when he announced today that he is no longer working for TNA Wrestling.
The Busted Open radio host shared with a broken voice:
“Yesterday, I had a great conversation with Carlos Silva, and me and TNA are no longer in a relationship. We’ve mutually agreed to part ways.”
Carlos Silva is the TNA President and has been seen as a lame duck in many TNA departures. Most recently, Steve Maclin had an expletive-laden parting message for Carlos Silva when he left TNA earlier this month.
Tommy Dreamer Has No “Ill Will or Malice” for TNA Departure
During Tommy Dreamer’s confession that he and TNA are no longer in a relationship, he got emotional. The former ECW World Champion seemingly implied that he wasn’t quite ready to leave TNA yet.
Tommy Dreamer shared:
“I’ve given so much of my life to that company. I don’t have any ill will or malice. I want it to survive, and I want it to be the best it can be.
I love this business. It’s hard because I’m not going to be able to see the people that I helped. I had a lot of people help me follow my dreams, and I love that part about the business of what I did.”
Tommy Dreamer has been in the pro wrestling business since 1989 and will certainly land on his feet. After all, the ECW legend has decades of experience wrestling and producing.
Tommy Dreamer’s Producer History
Tommy Dreamer is a journeyman who has spent many years both in front of and behind the camera. In 1992, the future legend would make a home in ECW.
Immediately, the Innovator of Violence fell in love with the grassroots camaraderie backstage, where wrestlers took on office roles, as well. Under Paul Heyman’s learning tree, Tommy Dreamer learned about merchandising, producing talent for pre-tapes, laying out matches, and more.
After ECW went out of business in 2001, Tommy Dreamer competed for WWE. The Hardcore Icon would join their ECW reboot in 2006, which he used to transition into a backstage role as an agent and booker. Tommy Dreamer wrestled his last ECW match in 2009 with a loss to Zack Ryder. He would lead WWE in January 2010.
Following his WWE run, Tommy Dreamer joined TNA as a member of EV 2.0. Once the hardcore nostalgia of an ECW tribute group wore off, Dreamer left TNA to start House of Hardcore. House of Hardcore picked up a lot of momentum, as Tommy would split his duties as their booker and as a part-time agent for TNA.
In 2015, Tommy focused solely on House of Hardcore, leaving TNA for the time being. However, TNA brought the ECW star back on in a full-time role in 2018. Sadly, House of Hardcore would shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic.
That’s why parting with TNA made Tommy Dreamer so emotional:
“It was a 24-hour job. I think I had it for close to 10 years. Off and on, I’ve been in and out of there. I loved going to work. I did. But everything comes to an end.“
It’s unknown why TNA and Tommy Dreamer have mutually agreed to go their separate ways. However, it seems like the Anthem-owned company already has eyes on a potential replacement. One of the top candidates to take Tommy Dreamer’s place is an ex-WWE Creative writer who recently left the company.
TNA Considering Road Dogg to Replace Tommy Dreamer
Oh, you didn’t know? The Road Dogg Jesse James is being considered as one of the lead TNA Producers after the dismissal of Tommy Dreamer.
This decision has made many people scratch their heads. For one, Road Dogg was made to look like a fool on Netflix’s Unreal. Then, the WWE Hall of Famer unceremoniously quit WWE Creative this year after rumblings that he was about to get fired.
It’s been said that this is another way for Triple H to keep his buddy close. WWE has a lot of influence over TNA. In fact, their relationship caused a rift with Tessa Blanchard and TNA. Tessa Blanchard is signed to CMLL, which has a working partnership with AEW. Not to mention, WWE owns AAA, the #1 rival of CMLL in Mexico.
It remains to be seen if Road Dogg wants the job. He recently said he wasn’t having fun at the end of his WWE run. The D-O-Double G looks to be having more fun than ever. He was recently the guest commentator for the OVW 1400 episode that saw the return of John Cena and JBL coming out of retirement.
