For the better part of two decades, Lionel Messi has been the standard. World Cups, Ballon d’Or trophies, league titles, scoring records. His résumé is so complete that the GOAT debate has largely become a formality. Now adidas is bringing a piece of that legacy to the golf course.
To celebrate Messi and Argentina’s World Cup title defense, adidas Golf has released the CODECHAOS Messi, the first golf shoe ever inspired by the Argentine superstar. As a former soccer player, I have to say that this is a crossover that speaks to me and feels surprisingly natural. After all, adidas has spent years blurring the lines between football, fashion, and golf, and this latest release might be one of its most compelling mashups yet.
The shoe combines elements from Messi’s iconic F50 El Último Tango football boot with one of the most recognizable silhouettes in modern golf footwear. The result is a limited-edition CODECHAOS that feels rooted in football history while remaining unmistakably golf. Visually, the connection is immediate.
What makes the release particularly interesting is that adidas resisted the temptation to simply transplant a football boot onto a golf outsole. Instead, the brand retained the performance DNA that has made CODECHAOS one of the most successful golf shoes of the past several years.

The upper borrows heavily from the F50 aesthetic, featuring a premium microfiber leather construction dressed in an Argentina-inspired palette of ivory, gold, and sky blue. Messi branding appears throughout, including on the tongue and sockliner, giving the shoe a collector’s appeal without overwhelming the design. It also incorporates adidas’ new AXISLOCK stabilizer system through the heel and midfoot, helping golfers stay connected to the ground during the swing.
Underfoot, the familiar TWISTGRIP outsole returns to provide traction from every angle, while full-length BOOST cushioning delivers the comfort that has become a hallmark of the franchise. It’s a combination that continues to resonate with golfers who prefer athletic footwear over more traditional saddle-inspired designs.

The timing of the launch is equally smart. For the next month, the sporting world’s attention will be fixed on football as Argentina begins its quest to defend its world title. In fact, Messi already scored a hat trick in Argentina’s first group stage game. Instead of sitting on the sidelines, adidas Golf is using the moment to connect two of its most influential categories through one of the most recognizable athletes on the planet.
The campaign imagery leans into that playful spirit, as well. adidas photographed the shoe at Silvies Valley Ranch in Eastern Oregon, home to the resort’s famous goat caddies. The setting adds a lighthearted touch to a release that already feels a little unexpected.

Golf footwear is creating the buzz on the fairways right now. Brands are increasingly looking outside the game for inspiration, pulling from running, basketball, skateboarding, and football to create products that feel culturally relevant beyond the fairways. The CODECHAOS Messi fits squarely into that movement.
For Messi fans, it’s an opportunity to own a piece of sporting history in a completely new format. For golfers, it’s another example of how the game’s style landscape continues to evolve. And for adidas, it’s proof that some icons don’t have to stay in their lane.
