Matt and Jeff Hardy are already fantasy-booking The New Day’s next move, and they want that move to be TNA.
With Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods now gone from WWE after turning down restructured TKO-era deals, everyone is wondering where they could land next. AEW has been the obvious name in the rumor mill, but the Hardys have another idea — bring them to TNA and run the match fans never got in WWE. While speaking on the Battleground podcast, Matt Hardy said the idea of seeing The New Day outside WWE feels strange, but also pretty damn exciting.
“Oh, the New Day could bring, hopefully, some Booty-Os if that’s their cereal. It would just be incredible. The thought of us and them outside of WWE is just very strange but cool.”
Matt Hardy said Kofi and Woods would bring a ton to any promotion because of how animated, talented, and loved they are. He also made it clear he believes they could succeed outside the WWE machine.
“It’s cool to see people when they do leave WWE and join other dimensions of pro wrestling and succeed. They would bring a lot, man. Just so animated and so talented, and people love them. They can do it all, man. So I would love to see that happen.”
Then came the real pitch. Matt said The Hardys vs. The New Day is absolutely a match they would love to have, especially with Kofi and Xavier currently working as heels after kicking out Big E. Matt even laid out the dynamic. The Hardys would be the heroes, The New Day would be the bad guys, and in his mind, that is main-event material.
“That would be a match we would love to have. No doubt about it. The Hardys versus the New Day, especially when the New Day, whenever they kicked out Big E and then Kofi and Xavier became bad guys, which was very unique for them.
To have the Hardys as the good guys, the heroes in the match, and the New Day as the villains, that would be a hell of a match. And I would love to see it. It’d be nice if we could grab that at TNA. That’d be a hell of a main event for Bound for Glory.”
The interesting part is this almost happened before. Matt said when The Hardys were going back and forth with WWE and worked NXT as tag team champions, The New Day actually reached out about doing a match or program with them on WWE television. That obviously never came together, but Matt made it clear the interest is still there.
“Those guys, I’m not going to lie, whenever we started going back and forth with WWE and we worked some NXT and we were the NXT tag team champions for a little while, the New Days had reached out and they had asked us about having a match on WWE program and doing a little program with them. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite work out. But yeah, there’s a lot of interest for the teams to face. So, we shall see. Who knows, man. Never say never in the pro wrestling business. Anything can happen.”
Bottom line, The New Day may have just left WWE, but the Hardys are already throwing out a pretty big landing spot. If TNA can somehow make it happen, Hardys vs. New Day at Bound for Glory would be one hell of a way to shake up the tag team scene.
