Jey Uso now knows what stands between him and the King of the Ring finals, and it’s one of WWE’s fastest rising stars.
WWE confirmed that Jey Uso will face Je’Von Evans on the June 19 episode of SmackDown in the second King of the Ring semifinal match. The winner moves on to face Oba Femi in the tournament finals at Night of Champions, where a SummerSlam world title shot will be waiting for the winner.
WWE laid out the stakes for the match and made it clear this is not just another tournament bout.
“Main Event” Jey Uso is set to battle Je’Von Evans in the King of the Ring Tournament Semifinals. The winner of the explosive showdown will take on Oba Femi in the final at WWE Night of Champions to earn the right to challenge a World Champion at SummerSlam.
Evans is coming into the match with plenty of momentum, but WWE also pointed out that he might not be walking in at full strength. He recently refused to join The Vision, then took a brutal mid-air Spear from Bron Breakker during his surprise match against Austin Theory. That kind of shot is not something someone just shakes off overnight. WWE even questioned whether that collision could mess with Evans heading into the biggest match of his young career.
Having recently refused to join The Vision, Evans is one of WWE’s most dangerous high-flying Superstars, though he may not be 100 percent after suffering a massive mid-air Spear from Bron Breakker during his impromptu match against Austin Theory. Will the high-impact collision affect his psyche?
Jey has his own drama going into SmackDown. WWE noted that Roman Reigns told him he needs to win the tournament on his own, but Jey’s first-round Fatal 4-Way victory came after Solo Sikoa got involved. LA Knight was furious about how things went down, only to get wiped out by Jacob Fatu. That puts even more pressure on Jey this week, because another messy win would only bring more questions.
From the onset, Jey has been told by World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns that he needs to win this tournament on his own. However, his Fatal 4-Way Match victory in the first round occurred after Solo Sikoa interfered. An irate LA Knight voiced his outrage over the outcome and was taken out by Jacob Fatu.
Will Jey earn the right to compete in the King of the Ring Final on his own? Or is Night of Champions about to get bouncy?
The June 19 SmackDown card is already stacked. Cody Rhodes will defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Gunther with Sami Zayn as special guest referee. R-Truth and Damian Priest will challenge MFT for the WWE Tag Team Championship. Charlotte Flair faces Liv Morgan in the Queen of the Ring semifinals. Carmelo Hayes takes on Ricky Saints, with the winner moving on to face Trick Williams at Night of Champions for the United States Title.
Now Jey Uso vs. Je’Von Evans adds another major tournament match to the lineup, and this one has a clear prize at the end. Whoever wins gets Oba Femi at Night of Champions and a chance to punch their ticket to a world title match at SummerSlam.
In the end, Jey Uso is trying to prove he can get to the King of the Ring finals without help, while Je’Von Evans has a chance to pull off a huge win and crash the party. Either way, SmackDown just got another match with real consequences attached.
