The WWE Hall of Famer talked about McMahon on the latest episode of Something To Wrestle, and while he made it clear he was not speaking about McMahon personally, he had a lot to say about what McMahon has meant professionally.
McMahon resigned from TKO Group Holdings in early 2024 after Janel Grant filed her lawsuit against him, WWE, and others. The lawsuit includes allegations of sex trafficking and sexual abuse, which McMahon has denied. JBL kept his comments focused on McMahon’s business legacy and whether he still has something to offer. JBL said the business and entertainment worlds are better when McMahon is involved.
“I think the business world is better with Vince McMahon in it. I think the entertainment world is better with Vince McMahon in it. You can pick and choose whether you like him personally or not. I’m just talking professionally. Is he good for business?”
That is where JBL drew the line. He was not trying to tell people how to feel about McMahon as a person. He was talking about the business side, and in JBL’s mind, McMahon’s track record is hard to ignore. JBL pointed to the way McMahon turned WWE from a wrestling company running smaller buildings into a global machine that eventually sold in a massive deal.
“He took a $1 million investment and sold it for $9.3 billion. It’s one of the greatest stories in American history.”
JBL also talked about how wild that rise really was, saying McMahon built that empire out of a wrestling business that used to run in armories and high school gyms. That part is why JBL still sees McMahon as one of the most important business minds wrestling has ever had.
He also called McMahon “the ultimate puppet master,” saying McMahon always kept people guessing and never showed his full hand. As for whether McMahon could still come back at his age, JBL did not hesitate.
“Would he be good at 81 to come back and do something? Hell yes, he would. I don’t know what. I have no idea. I don’t have any insight whatsoever. I just hope he does.”
JBL said he does not know what McMahon would do next, and he is not claiming to have inside information. He just wants to see McMahon do something again. He also joked that McMahon has no plans to slow down.
“He’s told me he’s going to live forever.”
At the end of the day, JBL knows Vince McMahon is one of the most polarizing names in wrestling history, especially with the legal issues still hanging over him. Still, when it comes strictly to business, JBL believes McMahon is too valuable to be sitting on the sidelines.
