As it happened: Less than half a second split the top two riders in Tour de Suisse stage 4 time trial

Refresh

Pogačar now leads by 4’22” over Carapaz now in the GC. Absolute dominance.

Carapaz finishes 1’32” down on Pogačar.

New fastest time!

Tadej Pogačar (UAD) wins stage four of the Tour de Suisse 2026 by 0.3 of a second over Mathieu van der Poel (APT). I do not know how he did that.

Bagioli finishes 1’39” down.

500 metres to go for the yellow jersey wearer.

Flamme rouge for Pogačar, he has just over a minute to finish a very technical final kilometre. I think he’s finishing 2nd today.

Vacek finishes just 10″ down in 3rd place.

500 metres to go for Vacek.

Into the finish for McNulty and he goes into 7th at 31″.

It is 34 degrees Celsius out on course. Absolutely baking hot out there.

Foss coming to the line and he finishes with a very good time of 6″ down in 2nd place.

Vacek flies by his minute man Finlay Pickering (JAY).

At the time check, Foss goes 4th at 11″ down. Going well so far.

7th best time from Matthews at +39″ down.

De Pestel with a very impressive ride to finish 3rd for now, 27″ down on Van der Poel.

Here comes Tadej Pogačar (UAD). He sets off and is likely going to be the only one who can really challenge Van der Poel now, we shall see how Großschartner performs as well.

Roglič goes 10th at the split at 23″ down.

Andrea Bagioli (LTK) and Richard Carapaz (EFE) have set off on their rides. Just one to go…

Mathias Vacek (LTK) sets off on his ride. Just three riders left to go.

Felix Großschartner (UAD) is out on course and goes 2nd at the split just 8″ behind Van der Poel.

Fisher-Black finished +36″ down on Van der Poel in 4th for now.

Former world and current Norwegian ITT champion, Tobias Foss (Netcompany-Ineos) sets off on his ride.

Very good time by Sander De Pestel (DCT) at just 15″ down at the split with Michael Matthews (JAY) at 23″ down both at the split.

Just over 15 riders left to start. Primož Roglič (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) is one of them as he sets off on his ride.

Wright finishes 4th at 37″ down on Van der Poel. A very strong ride by the Brit.

Tiberi finishes 6th at 47″ down on Van der Poel.

Flamme rouge for Van der Poel. This is going to be close for the best time between him and Wellens.

Fred Wright (PQT) and Aleksandr Vlasov (RBH) go 5th and 6th at the split at 21″ and 24″ down.

Bahrain Victorious duo of Lenny Martinez and Antonio Tiberi are both in the top 10 at the split point.

Schmid goes into 2nd at the finish by 17″.

Swiss champion Schmid goes under the flamme rouge and is on track for a decent finishing time.

Mathieu van der Poel (APT) passes Louis Vervaeke (SOQ) out on course.

Finn Fisher-Black (RBH) is about to set off on his ride. The New Zealand national champion is a name to watch for.

Schmid is now +3″ down at the split in second place.

Segaert misses out on the best time by 0.07 of a second!

It is a very hot and sunny day for the riders today.

Some riders to watch who have just set off are Magnus Cort (UXM) and Mauro Schmid (JAY).

Herzog comes to the finish and takes 3rd but is immediately pushed down to 4th by Bax who slots into 2nd place in Aarburg at 10″.

To see the current and most up to date top 5 in the race, make sure to regularly refresh the page and look under ‘race situation’ tab.

Chamberlain slots into 2nd place at the finish at +18″ back from Kluckers.

Segaert has set off on his ride.

Ørn-Kristoff finishes with a time of 30’07” with Haller finishing in 29’11”, both well off Brenner.

Chamberlain goes second at the split by just 4″ behind Kluckers.

Bax and Scotson have both set off on their rides.

Gradek, who is normally a very solid time trialer, must have had an issue as he is almost two minutes down at the first split.

Sjoerd Bax (Pinarello-Q36.5) is setting off soon, he finished 4th on stage 10 in the Giro d’Italia in a superb ITT where he held the top spot for a very long time. Can he perform to a similar level today?

Ben Swift (Netcompany-Ineos) equals the time of Grignard at the split.

Sebastian Grignard (Lotto-Intermarche) is the closest to Brenner’s split time of 13’19”, he is just under 8″ down.

No-one is close to Brenner’s time at the split on Wolfwilerstrasse for the moment.

One of the riders I’ve mentioned, Chamberlain, has set off.

Ørn-Kristoff, Gradek and Haller all well down on Brenner at the split with the latter of the three being the closest.

Brenner goes through the time split in 13’19”. The first benchmark of the day.

The first major ITT name on the list is Giro stage winner, Alec Segaert (Bahrain Victorious), who sets off in half an hour from now.

Early riders to possibly watch for a good time are Thibau Nys (Lidl-Trek), Oscar Chamberlain (Decathlon-CMA CGM), Callum Scotson (Decathlon-CMA CGM), Nils Politt (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) among others.

Felix Ørn-Kristoff (Lotto-Intermarche) is the next man to set off on his ride followed by Kamil Gradek (Bahrain Victorious), Marco Haller (Tudor), Luke Lamperti (EF Education-EasyPost) and they are coming thick and fast with just one minute between start times.

There is an intermediate time check at roughly the halfway point of the day on the brilliantly named Wolfwilerstrasse. That will be the first showing of how riders are doing, but a negative split is definitely a possibility on this sort of course.

Aside from Pogačar, riders expected to make good gains today are Mathias Vacek (Lidl-Trek), Brandon McNulty (UAE Team Emirates-XRG), Felix Großschartner (UAE Team Emirates-XRG), Tobias Foss (Netcompany-Ineos) and Primož Roglič (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe).

Hello and welcome to live updates of stage 4 at the men’s Tour de Suisse where the task of the day is a tricky but largely flat individual time trial.
