Matt Sydal is finally back in AEW. Sydal returned during the June 20 episode of AEW Collision in a backstage segment with Christopher Daniels and SkyFlight. Daniels brought him back into the mix, made it clear he had been missed, and SkyFlight told Sydal they had his back.

This was Sydal’s first real AEW appearance after being gone for more than a year. He last wrestled for the company on the May 22, 2024 episode of Dynamite, where he lost to Konosuke Takeshita.

His absence was not just some creative mystery. Sydal had been recovering from foot surgery tied to an old motorcycle wreck. That injury had been causing him pain for years and had affected what he could do in the ring.

During the Collision segment, Sydal said it was the hardest recovery of his life, but he is ready to push his comeback as far as he can. He made it clear he is not back just to stand around.

Now, Sydal is back with SkyFlight behind him, and AEW finally has him in the picture again after months of questions about where he had been.
