FTR Stepping Away From Wrestling After 12 Straight Years Of Grinding

FTR is finally hitting the brakes. With questions already swirling about their AEW contracts, Dax Harwood has revealed that he and Cash Wheeler are stepping away from wrestling after spending the last 12 years going nonstop.

The former AEW World Tag Team Champions have been absent from television since dropping the titles to Adam Copeland and Christian Cage in an “I Quit” match at Double or Nothing. Now, Dax has explained why.

Taking to Instagram, Harwood said FTR has been pushing at full speed since 2014 and never really took any time for themselves.

“Since the summer of 2014, The Revival, FTR, Dawson & Dash, Dax & Cash, whatever you want to call us, we’ve had the pedal to the floor. Aside from my bicep tear in 2017, we’ve taken no time away from the job we’ve dreamed of having. Physically & mentally, we both became exhausted.”

Harwood then revealed just how beat up his body has become after years of working at a high level, including injuries that many fans never knew about.

“We were two of the very few talents that traveled and worked on both Collision & Dynamite. I’ve fought through 3 hematomas on my lower back, another bicep tear I decided not to have surgery on, labrum tear from my groin to my hip, a shoulder that needs replacement, and probably a laundry list of other things I’m too afraid to get checked out haha.”

For the first time in over a decade, FTR has decided to put themselves and their families first. Dax admitted he does not know when they will return, what comes next, or even how much longer they have left.

“For the first time in 12 years, we’ve decided to step away and take some time for ourselves & for our families. I’m not sure when we’ll be back, what we’re going to do, how much longer we have, or if we even need to prove anything at all anymore.”

The announcement comes as FTR enters the option year of their AEW contracts, which has already sparked speculation about their long-term future. BodySlam.net recently reported that WWE has shown preliminary interest through mutual contacts, though there is no indication that a departure from AEW is imminent.

Even so, Dax’s message made one thing clear. Right now, contract talk and wrestling politics are taking a back seat. After 12 years without slowing down, FTR is stepping away.
