One race won by strength, another decided by a single mistake.

Coming only a week after a rain-soaked, drama-filled Leogang, conditions in Lenzerheide couldn’t have been more different. Hot, dry, and dusty trails greeted athletes for the fourth round of the Whoop UCI Mountain Bike World Series, presenting an entirely new challenge for the world’s best cross-country racers.

It wasn’t just the weather that had people talking in Switzerland. Home team Thömus Maxon caused a stir throughout the paddock when its prototype 32-inch wheeled bike first appeared in practise before both Alessandra Keller and Mathias Flückiger lined up aboard the oversized machines for Friday’s short-track race.

By Sunday, however, the focus had shifted back to the racing itself. Just seven days after dominating in Leogang, Jenny Rissveds and Adrien Boichis arrived in Lenzerheide looking to continue their momentum, and while Rissveds doubled up, one mistake from Boichis on the final lap opened the door for Luca Martin.
