Goldberg On Triple H: ‘Truthfully, At The End Of The Day, He’s A Good Guy’

WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg said that he and Triple H could not stand each other during their time as opponents in WWE.

Speaking on Going Ringside with the Local Station, Goldberg said the two had a confrontation before he arrived in WWE, were represented by the same agent, and that Triple H’s marriage to Vince McMahon’s daughter added to the difficulty.

“It was different at the time, because he and I couldn’t stand each other,” Goldberg said. “We were both represented by the same agent, and we had a confrontation prior to me going to the WWE, and then, oh, by the way, he was married to Vince McMahon’s daughter, so I mean it was kind of like me walking into an unwinnable situation, but I think business prevailed, and truthfully, at the end of the day, he’s a good guy.”

Goldberg also spoke about Meng (aka Haku), whom he worked with in his WCW run. He called Meng an idol and one of his biggest mentors, praising him both in and out of the ring. Asked whether it was scary to work with Meng given his reputation, Goldberg said no one scares him. “Meng never scared me,” he said. “I just greatly appreciated the person that he was, the human being that he was, outside of the ring, inside the ring.”

On his start in the business, Goldberg said he felt unwanted as a former NFL player breaking into wrestling. “I was still a professional football player trying to blend into a new business where I was not really wanted,” he said. “I was stealing a guy’s job.” He compared it to “a football player walking into a frat party,” but said he was always going to succeed.

Goldberg called Brock Lesnar his best opponent, describing him as a mirror image of himself and saying he was thrilled to share the ring with him. “The dynamic of having two absolute monsters in the ring together, I was more excited than anyone, because he was a guy that could take it if I hit him,” Goldberg said.

He also said he has been busier since stepping away from wrestling, with television projects in the works, including a show with his son that he hopes will land at Discovery, as well as an appearance on Shark Tank.
