Team Ireland travelled to the ITTF Czech Para Open in Ostrava with a squad consisting of Colin Judge, Paddy Vaughan, Kevin O’Callaghan, Sean Geoghegan, Sam Brennan, and Aaron Mellows. The team delivered a series of strong performances, securing multiple medals and gaining valuable experience against high-level international competition.
Silver Medal for Paddy in Class 7 Singles
Paddy produced an excellent performance to reach the final of the Class 7 singles event, earning a silver medal.
In the final, he was narrowly defeated 2–3 by the world No. 13 in a closely contested match, reflecting the high standard of play throughout.
Competitive Singles Performances
Colin reached the quarter-finals of the Class 3 singles, where he put in a strong display before losing 3–1 to the French No. 1 in a high-quality encounter.
Sam Brennan progressed from his group with a notable win and advanced to the last 16 of the Class 9 singles.
Kevin, Sean, and Aaron all showed positive performances in the group stages, facing tough opposition, but did not progress to the knockout rounds.
Doubles Success
There was further success in the doubles events, with two podium finishes for the Irish team.
Kevin and Colin secured their first medal together in Men’s Doubles Class 8. They topped their group and delivered an impressive quarter-final victory to reach the semi-finals. There, they faced the top-seeded French pairing and, despite a 0–3 result, produced a highly competitive performance that was not reflected in the scoreline. They take home a bronze medal.
Sean also claimed a bronze medal in Doubles Class 18 alongside Ukrainian partner Daniil Mahai. The pair finished second in their group and advanced to the semi-finals following strong performances.
Overall, the ITTF Czech Para Open in Ostrava provided valuable international competition, with encouraging results and multiple podium finishes for Team Ireland.
