I know, a country that is rebranding sounds strange. But in fact it is something the Czechs did a few years ago when they changed the English name from Czech Republic to Czechia. Now the Czech national team is following.
Today, the Czech baseball federation announced the “rebranding” of the team uniforms. Instead of the CR logo, they sported for years, they now sport CZ on their caps and Czechia on their jerseys.
The English name replaces the Czech denomination of the country: Czesko.
The Czechs also changed their clothing brand. When it comes to caps, they used to sport caps of Zephyr, now they changed to New Era, and even though I am not a big fan of New Era, it is an improvement over Zephyr. Jersey-wise, they moved from their home country brand Jersey 53 to Italian brand Macron.
Assuming the white jersey will be their home jersey, the navy jersey will be their road shirt. Next to these two, there is an alternate jersey with af fine pinstripe and the CZ logo on the left chest. The team will sport one cap, a navy-ish cap with a red lid.
According to Czech head coach Pavel Chadim, the reason for the change is that the previous Czech Republic cap and the Cesko (Czechia) jersey did not match. As a result, the Czech Baseball Federation decided for a change.
I always liked the CR caps and old jerseys. I think I have to get used to the new brand of baseball uniforms of the Czechs, although I like the blue jersey.
If you are interested to buy one of the jerseys and/or the cap, here is the link to the webshop:
The cap costs 1,099 Czech Krone, which equals €45,42. Rather steep if you’s ask me.
Here are some impressions of the new Czechia uniforms.
