Tottenham Hotspur will fellow Londoners Brentford on the opening weekend of the 2026/27 Premier League season.
The Lilywhites have endured two dismal seasons domestically, finishing 17th in the top flight table two years in a row.
While Ange Postecoglou did guide the north London side to the Europa League in 2025, last term Spurs sacked both Thomas Frank and his successor, Igor Tudor, before eventually appointing Roberto De Zerbi to oversee a desperate – but successful – battle to avoid relegation.
De Zerbi will now benefit from a full pre-season with his squad and will undoubtedly expect to see huge improvement next season, but in the meantime it has emerged that the Lilywhites are chasing a Liverpool star.
According to TEAMtalk, Spurs have been in talks with Liverpool over a possible move for versatile midfielder Cody Gakpo.
The report suggests that the London side have been in discussions with their Merseyside counterparts as they assess possible alternatives to Manchester City’s Savinho, who is a long-term target for the club.

Gakpo, 27, has scored 50 goals and registered 23 assists in 180 games for Liverpool across all competitions, since joining the club from PSV Eindhoven back in 2023.
The Dutchman is currently on international duty with the Netherlands at the World Cup in North America, and he scored twice in their comprehensive 5-1 victory against Sweden on Saturday.
The report suggests, however, that Gakpo’s future at Anfield is uncertain following the arrival of Andoni Iraola as the Reds’ new manager, and Spurs have therefore enquired about the player’s availability.
Gakpo is under contract on Merseyside until the end of the 2029/30 campaign, but it appears that Spurs may attempt to lure him to the capital if he isn’t given assurances about his game time next season.
