Milwaukee Brewers vs Cincinnati Reds – June 23, 2026

The Cincinnati Reds and Milwaukee Brewers played a tight game in the series opener on Monday night. Neither team could push a run across the plate in the first nine innings at Great American Ball Park, but Milwaukee were able to score twice in the 10th and hold on for the win. Today the Reds will look to even up the series against the 1st place Brewers. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10pm ET.

Starting Lineups

Starting Pitchers

Nick Lodolo

After missing the first five weeks of the year while dealing with a blister issue that popped up in his final start of the spring, Lodolo has returned tot he mound and made eight starts and he’s struggled in most of his outings. His control has been iffy at best as he’s walked 17 batters and hit eight more in 42.2 innings pitched. His strikeouts are also down significantly. In his last outing he allowed seven runs on 11 hits in 4.2 innings to the Mets. Cincinnati has lost all three of his starts in June.

The splits are big in 2026 for Lodolo, but both righties and lefties are finding plenty of success. Right-handed hitters are good across the board when facing him and hitting for a lot of power. Left-handed hitters are hitting for a very high average, walking often, making tons of contact, and showing solid power when they do get hits.

Brandon Sproat

It has been a tough season for Sproat. Acquired by the Brewers in January in a deal with the Mets the 25-year-old rookie hasn’t had many quality outings so far in the first half. In seven of his 12 starts he’s failed to complete 5.0 innings. One of those times he did, though, was two starts ago when he allowed one run in 6.0 innings to the Athletics. His last time out he allowed four runs in 3.2 innings against Cleveland.

The splits aren’t really there for Sproat when it comes to OPS, but the two groups get there differently. Left-handed hitters are walking a lot more but hitting for less power. Right-handed hitters are making more contact, hitting for a higher average, and hitting for more power but haven’t walked nearly as often.

News and Notes

Will Benson Optioned

The Reds sent Benson to Triple-A earlier today when they activated Elly De La Cruz from the 10-day injured list.

Hunter Greene on rehab tonight in Louisville

This will be the second rehab start for Greene. It is his first one with Louisville, with the previous one coming while he was in Goodyear with the Arizona Complex League Reds (4IP, 2H, 0R, 1BB, 6K).

Struggles within the division

After last night’s loss the Reds are now 2-14 against the National League Central Division. That’s incredible.
