Will more teams be willing to try the offer sheet route?
Greg Wyshynski of ESPN: There have only been four offer sheets signed in the past 12 years, but one agent thinks teams maybe feeling more urgency and willingness to take swings. It’s not as easy to improve.
“Teams are feeling an urgency to be good, to take a run at . There’s a ton of teams I feel like that are in that pressure situation. They’ve gone through a rebuild and now’s the time,” he said. “So I think the circumstances are such that there’s a very good chance that you would see an offer sheet.”
The Florida Panthers and Sergei Bobrovsky may still be talking, but …
Greg Wyshynski of ESPN: Believe the Florida Panthers and pending UFA goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky are still talking. Think that both term and money are an issue. The Panthers would like to keep the money down so they don’t have trade Evan Rodrigues and others. They also have to sign a backup goaltender. The Panthers want to go shorter term with the 37-year-old.
Quick Rumor Hits on a Bunch of Players Who Could be on the Move This Offseason
Brad Marchand‘s six-year deal gets brought up, but there’s a difference in aging players at forward compared to a goaltender.
Teams who could be in the market for a goaltender are the San Jose Sharks, Toronto Maple Leafs, Carolina Hurricanes, and Edmonton Oilers.
The Chicago Blackhawks and Connor Bedard’s camp are negotiating
Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun-Times: Connor Bedard‘s agent, Don Meehan, said that they’ve exchanged numbers with the Chicago Blackhawks, and that the sides are actively negotiating.
It will be interesting to see if they go for the full eight-year term, or if they go with a medium length deal in the four or five-year range. There is still a long ways to go.
Bedard will be offer sheet eligible after July 1st, but it’s unlikely that he’d sign one.
AFP Analytics’ projections Bedard at $12.3 million on a long-term deal.
