The June 23 episode of the show was an interesting episode, and fans didn’t know what they had coming. The Culling had a good run in WWE’s NXT brand, but it seems that they may be nearing their end.
The Culling originally debuted in NXT in 2023 under the leadership of Shawn Spears. He had just returned to WWE after a run in AEW with a darker mindset and a mission to help overlooked talent find purpose.
Over time, the faction added members like Brooks Jensen, Niko Vance, Izzi Dame. They had a lot of appeal with fans, and even saw championship gold, but nothing can last forever.
The Culling may have finally reached its breaking point during this week’s episode of NXT. What started as a rough night for the faction quickly turned into a complete disaster by the end of the show.
Earlier in the night, Shawn Spears accidentally cost Izzi Dame a huge opportunity when he distracted her during her match with Arianna Grace. The distraction allowed Grace to pick up the win and secure a WWE Women’s Speed Championship match against Wren Sinclair at Great American Bash.
Things only got worse later in the evening when Shawn Spears and Niko Vance represented The Culling in a tag team match against “Super” Sean Legacy and Dorian Van Dux. Spears ended up taking the loss for his team, continuing a miserable night for the faction’s leader.
After the match, Niko Vance snapped. He attacked Spears and unloaded his frustrations before delivering a brutal assault that ended with Spears crashing through the announce table at ringside.
With Izzi Dame already upset earlier in the night and Vance turning on Spears in such violent fashion, The Culling appears to be finished. A group that was built around Shawn Spears helping others find direction may now be falling apart.
