Kevin Owens won’t be wrestling at NXT Great American Bash, but WWE found a way to get him involved.

During the June 23 episode of NXT on The CW, WWE revealed that Owens will be part of the Great American Bash Tailgate event and watch party before the June 28 Premium Live Event at the WWE Performance Center. He will join Busted Open’s Dave LaGreca for the pre-show festivities.

Owens has been out of action since April 2025 after undergoing neck surgery, so fans have been waiting for any sign of him being brought back into WWE programming. This won’t be an in-ring return, but it does put the former WWE Universal Champion back in the mix for a major NXT weekend.

Owens has still stayed connected to WWE while recovering. He was a coach on season three of WWE LFG on A&E, and his name also came up during the June 23 SmackDown taping in London when Cody Rhodes mentioned him while addressing Sami Zayn.

For now, Owens’ Great American Bash role is set for the Tailgate and watch party, not the main card. Still, with Owens being away from the ring for so long, WWE putting him in front of fans again is enough to get people talking.
