Tuesday was a heartbreaking day down on the farm. The Dash and DSL Sox each suffered walk-off losses, while the Knights and Cannon Ballers both mounted ninth-inning comebacks that fell 90 feet short.
Although there were no wins to be found, George Wolkow went deep for the tenth time this year, Matthew Boughton followed up his Carolina League Player of the Week win with a three-hit night, and Riley Eikhoff turned in another strong start for the Dash.
All this and more in today’s farm report!
Triple-A Charlotte Knights (42-34)
Despite a desperate comeback attempt, a 7-run seventh inning from the Rochester Red Wings doomed the Knights Tuesday as they fell 10-9.
Charlotte trailed 10-2 entering the bottom of the seventh when Rikuu Nishida, Dustin Harris, and Nolan Jones each picked up RBI hits to bring the score to 10-6. The Knights again threatened in the bottom of the ninth, loading the bases with one out. Jones made the score 10-7 with a sac fly, and Caden Connor brought the Knights within one on a bases-loaded single. The team never got the equalizer, however.
Five different pitchers toed the rubber for the Knights in the loss. Duncan Davitt was masterful, striking out four over three perfect innings. Jared Kelley made his AAA debut, striking out two over two scoreless innings.

Double-A Birmingham Barons (26-44)
The Barons struggled to find consistent offense on Tuesday, managing just four hits in a 5-3 loss to the Tennessee Smokies. Three of the Barons’ four hits were doubles, and the team drew eight walks in the loss, but they couldn’t find a way to really capitalize on all of their baserunners.
Birmingham broke through in the fourth, when Jeral Perez drove in two with a bases-loaded double. Dylan Campbell brought in another with a bases-loaded walk, one of four free passes the outfielder received on the day, but those three runs were all the Barons mustered.
The bullpen pitched well in the loss. Phil Fox, Nick Altermatt, and Jacob Heatherly each fired scoreless innings to keep the game close.
- Dylan Campbell (RF): 0-for-1, RBI, 4 BB, SB
- Alec Briley (1B): 1-for-5, 2B

High-A Winston-Salem Dash (39-31)
The Dash dropped a heartbreaker Tuesday, squandering a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the ninth and falling 5-4 to the Hub City Spartanburgers. Winston-Salem issued five walks in the final frame to push the tying run across before the winning run scored on a passed ball.
George Wolkow and Ryan Burrowes each went deep earlier in the game to help build up the Dash lead. Wolkow now has 10 home runs on the season, three shy of tying his career-best mark of 13.
Riley Eikhoff was strong in his second High-A start, holding the Spartanburgers to two runs over five innings. The right-hander allowed five hits, including a pair of solo home runs, in the loss.

Single-A Kannapolis Cannon Ballers (35-35)
Like the Knights, the Cannon Ballers also had a ninth-inning comeback fall just short in their 4-3 loss to the Columbia Fireflies. Trailing 4-0 entering the final frame, the Ballers rattled off three straight hits, including a Stiven Flores RBI-double, to bring in a run. Nick McLain followed with a walk to load the bases, but Adrian Gil grounded into a double play, scoring a run and dampening the rally. Nathan Archer brought the team within one with an RBI-triple, but Kannapolis couldn’t get him home to tie things up.
The bullpen was perfect — literally — in the loss, with Daniel Wright, Jesús Mendez, and Marco Barrios covering the final four innings without allowing a baserunner.
