Serotta Marks the Colorado’s 40th Anniversary with a “Very Special” Limited Edition

Serotta Cycling today announced the Colorado CXL Limited Edition, a 40-unit commemorative complete bicycle marking the 40th anniversary of the original Colorado — the frame that defined the brand’s performance identity and helped establish Serotta as a leader in custom bicycle construction.

2  Models, 2 Materials, 2 Master Frame-Builders, 2 Builds, 1 Cyclist

  • The Colorado CXL LE is our tip of the hat to the earliest Colorados, those made in steel.  Crafted from our recently updated proprietary C17 Columbus steel tubing, we’re excited and honored to announce that each CXL LE will be fillet-brazed and lovingly finished by the one and only Kelly Bedford.  In early 1986, “Kelly” had just moved from Florida to become one of Serotta’s first recruited builders and” as recounted by Ben, “I pretty much threw Kelly into the deep end on arrival, including sharing brazing duties with me on the new Colorados.”
  • The Colorado CXL LE Ti is built around Serotta’s forthcoming 2027 3D hollow-core frame components — technology not yet available on any other model — integrated with our T-8 titanium Colorado Concept tube set. As with each of Serotta’s current titanium frames, the LE Ti will be welded by Andy Keech, as Serotta calls it, “when it comes to welding thin walled, highly manipulated titanium, Andy- he’s simply the best that’s ever been.”

Each of the forty bikes:

  • As with all Serotta bicycles, each Colorado is designed and crafted exclusively to the individual to optimize performance.
  • Individually engraved with Colorado CXL LE markings and its unique series number, 1 through 40.
  • Personally signed by Ben Serotta, founder & designer and its master artisan Kelly Bedford (steel frames) or Andy Keech (titanium).
  • UDH drop outs, fully integrated brake lines. ENVE IR Road forks (28-35C tires).
  • Your choice of three original Colorado Fade paint finishes.

The complete builds feature Campagnolo Record WRL 13 or Shimano Ultegra Di2 components (SRAM didn’t enter the serious end of the road market until 20 years later, 2006), Campagnolo or Fulcrum wheels and Deda Cockpit, with custom build options available on request.

Complete bicycle pricing for the CXL LE begins at $13,495, and CXL LE Ti from $13,995 for the CXL LE Ti.

Market Context

The original Colorado debuted in 1986 at the New York International Bike Show. Its unconventional tube technology — S-bend chainstays, oversized tapered main tubes — was met with skepticism by the industry until the Coors Light Team brought it mainstream recognition, first with the updated steel Colorado, then with the Colorado Legend Ti. Across the five year relationship, Coors became the winningest team in US Cycling history. The Serotta Colorado duo had become Serotta’s best-selling frame and the product most associated with the brand’s technical identity.

The CXL LE and CXL LE Ti use next-generation 3D hollow-core frame technology not yet released on any production Serotta model, positioning this edition as both a historical reference and a forward-looking technical statement.
