Jade Cargill is not letting wrestling fans slap the “botch” label on everything, especially when it comes to her viral wig moment.
While speaking on the No Contest Wrestling Podcast with O’Shea Jackson Jr. and TJ Jefferson, Jade addressed the reaction to her wig coming loose during the fatal four-way match involving Charlotte Flair, Lyra Valkyria, and Asuka. After explaining that her wig was sewn on and still got pulled off during the match, Jade said the whole situation exposed how ignorant some fans can be. Jade said her ball cap came off too, which may have actually saved her from an even worse wave of online jokes.
“Thankfully my ball cap came off as well because imagine if my ball cap was still on my head. People would have really thought I was bald. Like that’s the crazy thing about it.”
Cargill said the moment can be used to teach people about culture, because a lot of women in wrestling wear wigs or extensions. Then Jade tore into the fans who turned the moment into an easy joke online.
“I think this is a great opportunity to teach people about the culture and let people know because everybody, every single woman, maybe like three women or four, wears extensions, wears a wig. There’s several of us that wear wigs.”
“People are just ignorant and stupid and they just want to jump on the bandwagon. But hey, you know what? That lets me know good or bad, I always trend. I always trend. People always try to find a reason to slam dunk and what else can you do when you’re Jade Cargill?”
The hosts pointed out that Jade continued the match and still hit her spots after the incident. Jade said she was flustered, angry, and embarrassed, but she got through it. Jade still managed to put her own spin on it.
“It felt like forever. I was fuming. I didn’t I was like just flustered. I was just so flustered and I was just thinking more so for the match and more so for these women who put on and but it felt like forever I was out there y’all. I don’t think y’all understand. That was my most embarrassing point.”
“But guess what? I’m still alive. I’m still beautiful. And hey, with short hair or long hair, I’m still the bomb. So, it’s all good. It is all good.”
Then Jade got to the part that really bothered her. She said calling the wig moment a botch made no sense because her hair is part of her look and character.
“It was a lot. It was a lot. But it’s just like the ignorance. But you know what? I’m going to take that moment. I’m going to do something really big with it because the ignorance in wrestling is so loud.”
Jade said this kind of thing happens to women in wrestling all the time, whether it is hair, extensions, or wardrobe issues. She added that fans throw the word around way too much.
“It’s so loud because so many women have lost extension. So many women have had all kind of malfunctions with their wardrobe. And for some reason, they called it a botch when my hair is a part of my character. Like what do what do we what are we calling botches now?”
“I think people are getting so loose with the word now. I think there needs to be a gatekeeper.”
The conversation then shifted into the bigger issue of why Jade gets so much hate online. O’Shea said some of it comes from people not being able to relate to her, and Jade agreed.
“Exactly. That is so weird because when I actually open up and I tell people, hey, this is my fear, they use it against you.”
Jade said that being open with fans can backfire because they take vulnerable moments and weaponize them. Still, Jade said she is learning from it and leaning into the villain energy.
“So, it’s like, why would I sit up here and tell you guys or try to get personal and tell you all like how I feel and what I go through for you all to turn it around and and and try to stab me in the back when I’m being very vulnerable and telling you all, ‘Hey, this is one of my greatest fears that I have.’”
“But you learn from it and this is what makes super villains who they are. So, I love that. For me, people are going to hate regardless. And it’s cuz I’m not relatable, but I don’t care to be relatable.”
Jade also pointed out that some fans may resent how much she has accomplished in such a short amount of time. She said she is not going to apologize for taking the opportunities in front of her.
“But for some reason, people just try to find reasons to hate Jade. And maybe it’s because I’m what, five years in the game. And how many titles have I won? Maybe it’s because my name rings bells more than people who have been in this game more than 10 plus years. I can’t help that. I’m just blessed.”
“There’s nothing I can do. People try to hate. Like, you want to create a legacy for your kids, you know, and do something. So why would I put something down that’s been given to me and I’m running with it? Like get out of here. People are sick.”
Jade Cargill knows fans are going to keep talking, but she also knows they are still talking about her. Whether they are laughing, hating, or trying to call everything a botch, Jade is taking the heat and turning it into fuel.
