Tony Khan is not brushing off the idea that WWE taking WrestleMania to Saudi Arabia could create a real opportunity for AEW in the United States.
While speaking to Q93 Alexandria, Khan was asked if WrestleMania being held in Saudi Arabia gives AEW an opening to do something big for American wrestling fans. Khan did not shoot that down. Instead, he admitted it is something worth looking at, especially since people keep bringing it up to him. Khan said the question comes up a lot, and that alone makes him think there could be something there for AEW.
“Certainly something to consider. I get asked that question all the time. So, it would make you think that there could be opportunities, and I’m very excited about what AEW is doing right now, and it seems like that momentum and that excitement is really caught up all over the world.”
Khan then turned the focus to AEW’s own momentum. He talked up the company’s strong 2025 and said 2026 has been even better so far.
“People are really thrilled with AEW. We had a huge 2025, and now we’re having a great 2026. We’ve absolutely capitalized on that momentum, and I think we’re having an even better year this year.”
Khan also pointed to AEW’s awards and outside recognition, making it clear he believes the company is already operating at a high level. Khan finished by leaving the door open, saying AEW could have a chance to take advantage of the situation.
“We were voted the Sports Illustrated Pro Wrestling Promotion of the Year in 2025. We won numerous awards from all the top publications for top wrestling promotion, and I think that in 2026 we’re doing even better.”
“So, there’s a lot of excitement and certainly, since you asked, that could be a good possibility.”
That is about as close as Tony Khan is going to get without announcing anything. WWE taking WrestleMania to Saudi Arabia leaves a giant lane open in the United States, and Khan sounds like he knows AEW could have a shot to fill that space if the timing is right.
