The Lakers and LeBron James have had limited communication since the start of free agency, with no contract offer reportedly made as the organization evaluates its offseason plans.

According to Shams Charania, Los Angeles reached out to James shortly after teams were permitted to negotiate with their own free agents, but discussions have been quiet since then.

“There was a check-in call made, to my understanding, early in free agency once teams were able to start negotiating with their own free agents after the end of the NBA Finals,” said Charania.

“Since then though there hasn’t been much communication, from my understanding, between the Lakers and LeBron James’ side. And certainly not an offer yet.”

The Lakers are reportedly exploring how best to use the potential $50 million in cap flexibility available through James’ contract situation before determining their next steps.

“They’re trying to see what can they do with his $50 million of space, potentially, and then where does that leave LeBron?”

James has not yet announced whether he plans to return for another NBA season.

Meanwhile, the Lakers have already secured Austin Reaves on a new four-year, $185 million contract as they continue building the roster around Luka Doncic.
