Raced at high speeds with only a helmet and some lycra for protection, cycling is a dangerous sport where split-second crashes can have dramatic consequences in the form of injuries and fractures that can rule riders out for weeks or months.
Given crashes are, unfortunately, part of racing and training that means every team in the peloton has a list of injured riders to look after at some point during the season. Plus, even though rider safety has been an increasingly prominent topic in recent years, the number of crashes so far in 2026 points to the issue still being as present as ever.
Right from the beginning of the season, there have been constant reminders, with a kangaroo among the peloton at the men’s Tour Down Under contributing tough opening months for riders like Jhonatan Narváez and fellow UAE team Emirates-XRG rider Jay Vine. The flow of fractures and injuries then continued, right through to the Giro d’Italia and, more recently, the Tour de Suisse, where Urška Žigart (AG Insurance-Soudal) fractured her jaw.
A number of riders have had to concede that their Tour de France ambitions were over before the racing even began, including Žigart, Cat Ferguson (Movistar) – who crashed at the Giro d’Italia and Wout van Aert (Visma-Lease a Bike), who ended up with an infection after injuring an elbow.
We’ve compiled all currently injured riders in one place with a log of their injuries, as well as the race and date they were sustained, which we’ll update periodically. Some riders listed here may have recovered from their injuries, but are yet to return to racing.
Here’s the rundown of all the ongoing injuries keeping riders out of racing at the WorldTour, Women’s WorldTour and ProTeam levels.
