Kenny Omega might look smoother in the ring lately, but he isn’t really pretending everything is perfect when it comes to his health.
While speaking to The Sportster, Omega gave a real update on his health heading into Forbidden Door. After everything he went through with diverticulitis, Omega said his recovery is still an everyday thing.
“I mean, it still goes day by day. I have good days, I have bad days, but generally speaking, it’s moving in a positive trajectory.”
That is a pretty honest answer from Omega, especially since he previously admitted he came back too soon and slowed down his own recovery. Still, he says things are much better now than when he first returned: “So, I feel like how I felt when I came back is leagues different than how I feel now.”
The former AEW World Champion said feeling better has allowed him to take on the singles matches he actually wants. Otherwise, he would have had to seriously cut back or stop showing up altogether.
“So, it’s great to be able to feel confident and commit to being able to have these singles matches that I’ve wanted to have because otherwise it’s either I would have to really just dumb down my schedule a lot or just kind of stop showing up, which, you know, no one really wants to do, but health comes first. It’s paramount.”
That matters a lot with Omega set to face Zack Sabre Jr. at Forbidden Door. Omega made it clear he is thankful his body is in a good enough place for that match to even happen.
“So, I’m very glad that things have gone into the direction that they have and that I feel the way that I do right before Forbidden Door because otherwise I don’t know how else there would be a chance to wrestle against Zack Sabre Jr. So, that’s very fortunate for me.”
So, the Best Bout Machine is not saying he is 100 percent. He still has good days and bad days, but compared to where he was when he first came back, he says the difference is huge. With Forbidden Door just days away, the big question is whether Omega can keep pushing through without overdoing it again. He already learned the hard way that rushing back can cost him, and now health clearly comes first.
