Eastbourne Open Round-Up Final | Madison Keys claims third grass-court title as Humbert–Bergs final suspended by rain

Eastbourne Open Round-Up Final | Madison Keys claims third grass-court title as Humbert–Bergs final suspended by rain
The Eastbourne Open finals were played on Saturday across both the ATP and WTA events, with Madison Keys crowned champion for the third time at the British tournament, while the men’s final between Zizou Bergs and Ugo Humbert was suspended after just three games due to rain.
The American defeated Tatjana Maria in straight sets to secure her 11th career title and her first since winning the Australian Open 2025, while the men’s final was halted early in the first set with Humbert leading 2-1 after a clean start from both players on serve.
Keys strengthens her status as a three-time Eastbourne champion (2014, 2023, 2026), equalling Chris Evert’s tally and sitting behind only Martina Navratilova’s record of 11 titles at the event.
Meanwhile, Bergs and Humbert will return on Sunday to complete the final before immediately shifting focus to Wimbledon, where they have also been drawn to face each other in the first round.

Keys survives Maria resistance to win third Eastbourne crown

Madison Keys def. Tatjana Maria 7-5, 6-4

Madison Keys (No. 27) secured her third Eastbourne title after defeating Tatjana Maria (No. 112) in straight sets, although the match featured multiple momentum swings, particularly in a highly competitive opening set.

Keys started strongly, earning an early break and moving into a 5-3 lead. However, when serving for the set, Maria responded under pressure, saving three set points and breaking back to level the score, shifting momentum at a crucial stage of the opener.

The German veteran briefly extended the contest, but Keys immediately regained control, breaking back in the following game to restore her advantage. This time she consolidated and closed out the set 7-5 on serve.

In the second set, Maria—38 years old and a recognised grass-court specialist—remained highly competitive, holding serve consistently and matching Keys through the early games. Both players reached 3-3, with Maria having saved multiple break points earlier in the set, while Keys had yet to drop serve.

The decisive moment came in the seventh game, where Keys created and converted a break opportunity to move ahead. From there, she managed her service games with authority to close out the match. Keys finished the final with 88% of points won behind her first serve, converted three breaks in total, and dropped serve only once in the match before sealing a 7-5, 6-4 victory for her 11th WTA title.

The win sends Keys into Wimbledon in strong form after moving up to No. 22 in the rankings. She will open her campaign against American qualifier Kayla Day. For Maria, the result guarantees a return to the top 100 at No. 96, with a first-round meeting against Yulia Putintseva.

Humbert and Bergs final suspended after rain halts early play

Zizou Bergs 1-2 Ugo Humbert* (suspended)

The men’s final between Zizou Bergs and Ugo Humbert was suspended after just 15 minutes of play due to persistent rain that interrupted the match early in the opening set.

At the time of suspension, Humbert had saved a break point in his opening service game and was leading 2-1. The match had started evenly, with neither player able to create a break opportunity in the early stages. Although an initial short delay was expected, continuous rain forced organisers to suspend the final and reschedule the conclusion for Sunday.

Humbert is targeting the eighth title of his career but arrives under pressure, having lost four of his last five ATP finals. Bergs, meanwhile, is still chasing his first ATP title after falling short in both of his previous final appearances in 2025.

Both players are also drawn to meet again at Wimbledon in the first round, meaning the conclusion of this final will effectively serve as a preview of their upcoming Grand Slam clash at the All England Club.
