The Calgary Flames select Bode Laylin 164th overall in the 2026 NHL Draft

With the 164th overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, the Calgary Flames have selected defenceman Bode Laylin.

Who is Bode Laylin?

Laylin is a right-handed defenceman from St. Michael, Minnesota. He spent the 2025–26 season with the Tri-City Storm of the USHL, where he put up a breakout performance with 11 goals and 27 assists for 38 points in 55 games. His strong play earned him a spot on the USHL Third All-Star Team.

Analyzing the pick

After addressing the left side of their blue line early with Carson Carels, the Flames circle back to the defense corps to add a right-handed defender at 164th overall. As a smaller defenceman, Laylin has some solid defensive qualities while also being able to chip in offensively.

What’s next for Bode Laylin?

Laylin will be taking his talents to the Western Hockey League next season. He recently signed a scholarship and development agreement with the Everett Silvertips for the 2026–27 campaign. Furthermore, he has committed to the University of St. Thomas for the 2027–28 season.
