USMNT to face Bosnia-Herzegovina in Round of 32

The U.S. men’s national team’s Round of 32 opponent is officially set.

Bosnia-Herzegovina will oppose Mauricio Pochettino’s squad on July 1 in San Francisco, California. The third-place team from Group B clinched their place in the knockout stage after defeating Qatar 3-1 on Wednesday.

Sergej Barbarez’s squad tied co-hosts Canada 1-1 in their first group stage match before suffering a 4-1 hammering at the hands of Switzerland. Bosnia-Herzegovina tied Canada on four points, but finished third due to goal differential.

Ermin Mahmic leads the team with two goals in three matches this summer while Kerim Alajbegovic and Jovo Lukic each has one apiece. Veteran striker and captain Edin Dzeko remains a key figure in the squad despite not finding the back of the net yet.

The USMNT last played Bosnia-Herzegovina in December 2021, claiming a 1-0 victory in Carson, California. Cole Bassett scored the lone goal in the match while only Matt Turner, Auston Trusty, and Ricardo Pepi remain in the current roster from that match.

Should the USMNT advance to the Round of 16, they will travel back to Seattle, Washington for a July 6 showdown.
