MBA’s John Ker still remembers the first time he ever saw Brandon Semenuk ride a mountain bike. It was in the Slopestyle competition at the Crankworx Festival in Whistler, B.C. in the summer of 2007.
JK thought Semenuk was the most impressive rider in the event, but Brandon didn’t win that year. Nevertheless, he was absolutely amazing. The following photo is one that JK shot of Brandon in that event:
We were thinking that Brandon was 17 at the time, but we think he was either 15 or 16 at the time. When we Googled his name, we found that Wikipedia says he was born on February 2, 1992, but Google says he was born on February 2, 1991.
When we interviewed him for Mountain Bike Action, he told us he was born on February 2, 1991, so we guess that’s probably the correct date. That would mean that he’s 35 years old now. Here’s the link to the story we did on him:
Semenuk went on to win the Red Bull Joyride competition five times..
Semenuk also went on to win the Red Bull Rampage five times, winning that event in 2008, 2016, 2019, 2021, and 2024, the most wins of anybody in history.
In recent years Semenuk has been focusing more on rally car racing, where he is also exceptionally talented. He won the American Rally Association National Championship in 2022.
