Mercedes Moné secured another milestone at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, defeating Maya World to win the Women’s Owen Hart Cup for the second consecutive year.

The match opened with Moné in control, dictating the pace with aggressive offense. She mixed technical wrestling with a more physical edge, repeatedly grabbing World by the hair and throwing her around both inside and outside the ring. At one point, Moné even started her own count while the referee checked on World at ringside, reaching ten before returning her opponent to the ring herself.
As the match progressed, World began to find openings through reversals. She built momentum with a sequence of fallaway slams, bridging on each attempt. The third slam sent Moné to the outside, allowing World to follow up by bringing her back into the ring and connecting with a top-rope senton for a near-fall.
Moné responded by hitting the Moné Maker, but World kicked out before the three-count. A second attempt at the move was countered, with World nearly stealing the match with a quick pin. She then applied the Statement Maker on Moné, attempting to force a submission using her opponent’s own hold.
Moné managed to crawl toward the ropes, but World rolled her back to the center to maintain control. The sequence continued with counters, as Moné reversed the situation into her own Statement Maker, though World initially escaped.
The finish came shortly after, as Moné delivered a cut-throat backstabber before locking in the Statement Maker once again. This time, she applied extra pressure, forcing World to submit and securing the victory.
With the win, Moné becomes a two-time consecutive Women’s Owen Hart Cup winner. The result also guarantees her a future shot at the AEW Women’s World Championship at All In London on August 30.
The victory reinforces Moné’s position at the top of the division as she now heads toward one of AEW’s biggest events with a title opportunity in hand.
